iTCHYROBOT have worked with a vast number of schools in Redcar and Cleveland and the Tees Valley. Our head office is based in Redcar and Cleveland, sitting in the foothills of the moors in the town of Guisborough. For the second time in 2020, we are teaming up to support the team at Mike Hind Fitness to bring together a project for Christmas which will support the children of the borough who we have worked closely with for so many years.
Our area has some unique pressures; Covid is potentially making things harder for young people. A few facts that stand out (all data pre Covid – reasonable to say it’s worse now?):
- Nearly a third (30%) of Redcar and Cleveland Local Authority area communities are in the top 10% most deprived in England
- Redcar and Cleveland LA is ranked 13th most deprived compared to the other 317 Local Authority areas (in England)
- Over a quarter of households (26%) have children (under the age of 16) that live-in low-income households
These are not just households where no one works, but households where adults do work, sometimes more than one job, and it’s a struggle to make ends meet. For families working in places suffering the most from Covid, things are tough.
The aim of the Christmas project is to work with every primary school in Redcar and Cleveland to provide all 3600 kids, who are eligible for free school meals, with a food hamper to feed them over Christmas for the 10 days holidays.
To do this we need to raise £55k
We want to provide food so the kids do not go hungry, so we need to spread the word to successfully meet the target. In the first few hours the appeal has raised thousands and as of 9am this morning stood at over £11,000.
The appeal has been supported by footballers, a young lady who donated her tooth fairy money and then the people of Teesside and local companies, generously donating products and cash.
The team at Macro Based Diner, Cleveland Mountain Rescue, iTCHYROBOT, Carl Faulkner of Ironstone Trust and Redcar Council are also giving their time to deliver these much-needed food packages to those children in the Borough.
If you can help, please visit the appeal or help us spread word.
